Services      Energy Alerts

Why the Need for these Services?

As the energy industry continues to deregulate it is clear that energy prices are moving toward a time-of-use pricing model. What this means for a customer is energy costs per kilo-watt hour will vary based upon the time of day it is consumed. Price variations during each hour are purely based on competitive market economics of supply and demand. For example, energy prices at 1 pm during a weekday may be three to four times higher than prices at 6 pm. This changing market now pushes the price risk to the end use consumer. To the consumer this means potentially higher and in many cases significantly higher energy costs in the future. The ability to garner real-time energy use information and receive it proactively through Nxegen’s Alert Services can allow the customer to take action to reduce energy consumption BEFORE it reaches levels that can lead to higher energy prices.

What is Nxegen’s Capability and How Does it Work?

Nxegen can assist our customers with the development of an alert strategy. Using our two-way wireless network to monitor the use of energy in real-time 15-minute intervals, we can see patterns emerging and use any of a variety of alert mechanisms to notify our customer that a peak is being challenged or that total consumption is approaching pre-established levels.

Alert Services can be integrated with Nxegen’s Load Management Services to signal that a particular load management automated strategy is about to be put into effect or that a previously executed strategy is about to be cancelled. Coupling these services can establish a solid risk management strategy within a customer site, protecting against competitive price gouging and price changes.

How can the Customer benefit from these Services?

Having Alert Services, allows the customer to know what is about to happen before the event occurs. It puts the control in the customer’s hands to decide what can or should be done.

Online access through the Internet brings the customer real-time information about what is happening or has just happened. Reports detailing the “alerts” issued allows the customer to evaluate the success of planned responses and the associated financial impact.
